12 Days of Firemen - Day #12
Welcome to the last day of the 12 Days of Firemen! I hope you've had as much fun as I've had. First, the winners from yesterday are:
Marcy S.
Neena M.
That question was a tricky one, since sources give two opposite answers. But the most commonly accepted answer is that in the 1800s the fire brigades used to compete with each other and make their rigs the shiniest, spiffiest, raddest of them all. Red was a "royal" color, and the most expensive paint, so it became the norm.
Now, on to today's question! Since today is DESPERATELY SEEKING FIREMAN'S book birthday, the question of the day is this:

12 Days of Firemen - Day #11
Welcome to Day #11 of the 12 Days of Firemen. The winners from yesterday are:
Correct answer: Jacki Salay Newbon
Creative answer: bn100
Winners, please make sure to contact me at JenniferBernard.author@gmail.com with your mailing address.
Now on to today's question!
I
decided to give us all a break and pick an easier question today. It's a
question every kid who looks up to firefighters probably asks at some
point.
Why are fire engines red?
These days, they're aren't all red, of course. Many are bright yellow or lime green. But red is still the most common color. There's a historical reason for it. What is it?
As always, research is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected correct answer and one creative.
The winner will receive your choice of any signed book from my backlist, along with a Bachelor Fireman mug and some Kona coffee! (Since I'm in Hawaii, I'm sharing the love.)
The "creative" winner will receive a Bachelor Firemen gift pack.
You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer here or on my Facebook page. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook. Good luck!

12 Days of Firemen - #Day 10
Welcome to Day #10 of the 12 Days of Firemen! The winners from yesterday are:
Correct answer: Brandi B.
Creative answer: Lenna H.
The correct answer was B -- find another exit. A hot doorknob indicates fire on the other side of that door.
For today's question, I decided to go back in time.
Who invented the first fire extinguisher?
This invention has probably save hundreds of thousands of lives. But until I looked into it, I never knew which ingenious person created it. It turns out to be a pretty fascinating story, so have fun!
As always, research is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected correct answer and one creative.
The winner will receive my dear friend Candis Terry's next book, THE SWEETEST MISTAKE, which is also out on Tuesday, and also features a firefighter! I love Candis' books, and when I realized firefighter Jackson Wilder was the hero of this one, I clicked pre-order so fast, my computer nearly caught fire.

12 Days of Firemen - Day #9
Hats off to all the awesome answers from Day #8! The winners are:
Correct answer: Taylor Z.
Creative answer: Tracy F.
In today's 12 Days of Firemen challenge, it's time to put your fire safety knowledge to the test! Are you ready?
There's a fire in your building. You're behind a closed door. You put
your hand on the doorknob but it's hot to the touch. Do you:
A. Use a towel or cloth to open the door
B. Avoid the door and find a different way out of the room
C. Wrap yourself in wet clothing and run out the door
Research is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected
correct answer and one creative. For creative answers, anything goes,
with the understanding that in a real-life fire situation, we'd all
follow proper procedure.
The winner will receive the calendar named the #1 Firefighter Calendar
of 2014 by The Fire Critic: The Calgary Hotstuff Calendar! This calendar
is on the Top 10 list almost every year, and has won tons of awards.
And it's smokin' hot!
The "creative" winner will receive a Bachelor Firemen gift pack.

In which state is the Bachelor Firemen series set?
To add some options for "creative answers," hit me with your best "fireman book" title. You never know, Avon might love it!

12 Days of Firemen - Day 7
Welcome back to the 12 Days of Firemen party! I hope you had a lovely Christmas. I spent the day flying to Hawaii. The sunshine! The warmth! I barely know what to do with myself. But I'm sure I'll figure it out. The winners from Day #6 are:
Correct answer: Charlene A.
Creative answer: Isabel H.
Congratulations!
I
must warn you that I got a little wacky with today's trivia
question. Hey, I'm drunk on sunshine, can you blame me? I expect lots of
creative answers today. Go wild!
Okay, here goes:
According to the 1994 Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control, what
should a firefighter do in case of a UFO encounter? (I didn't make this up! It's really there!)
As always, research is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected correct answer and one creative. Have fun!
I'm very excited about today's top prize. I'm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis,
whose latest book, ALWAYS ON MY MIND, has a droolworthy firefighter
hero. The "correct" answer winner will receive a copy in whatever format
you desire. The creative winner will receive a Bachelor Firemen gift
pack.
You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer, either here on the blog or on my Facebook page.
Have fun!

12 Days of Firemen - #Day 6
Good morning, and welcome to Day #6 of the 12 Days of Firemen! The winners of Day 5 are:
Kristy B.
Marianne C.
As a reminder, we'll take tomorrow off
for Christmas, and be back in party mode on Thursday. So ... the
question for today ... if you read my books, you know that I adore
firemen, but I also love and respect the female members of the fire
service. (Sabina Jones, you're my hero.) So the question for today is:
Who was the first known female fire chief in the U.S?
As always, research is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected correct answer and one creative. Have fun!
Today's prize is a fantastic calendar I just discovered: The 2014
Kittendales Calendar. Hunky guys + kittens = OMG. (Proceeds support the
Hull Seaside Animal Rescue.) Since one of the hunky guys is a
firefighter, I believe it qualifies for the 12 Days of Firemen. And
since I'm making the rules here, it's in! The creative winner will
receive a Bachelor Firemen gift pack.
You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer either here or on my Facebook page. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook.
Have a joyful Christmas Eve and a wonderful Christmas. I'll see you on Thursday!

12 Days of Firemen - Day #5
Thanks to everyone for playing this trivia game with me! It's been great. We had nearly 100 answers to Day 4's question, and here are the winners:
Correct answer: Sue May T.
Creative answer: Jessica P.
And now for the challenge for Day 5! I wouldn't call today's challenge a trivia question; it's actually a really important one, especially with family gathering for the holidays. Here it is:
Name some fire safety tips. (At least two.)
As always, research is fine. Prizes will be awarded for one randomly selected correct answer and one creative. (Even though this is an important question, you can also have fun with it!)
Today's prize is a copy of the wonderful cookbook Playing with Fires: Firehouse Recipes and their Chefs. (Proceeds go to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation.) The creative winner will receive a Bachelor Firemen gift pack.
You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer either here or on my Facebook page. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook. And stay safe this holiday season! xoxo

12 Days of Firemen - Day #4
The winners of Day #3 in the 12 Days of Firemen have been chosen! They are:
Correct answer: Lisa B.
Creative answer: Kayla F.
People had lots of fun with the wetdown ceremony, I'm glad to see. Now on to the question for Day #4.
How much does a firefighter's helmet weigh?
As usual, research is allowed. (If it involves asking a friendly fireman at your local coffee shop, all the better.) Prizes will be awarded to one randomly selected correct answer, and one creative answer.
For this question, I've consulted the rules committee (me) and determined that posting a pic of a firefighter in his/her helmet is an acceptable "creative" answer.
Today, the first prize will be hot cocoa and a book (my perfect holiday break!): a Bachelor Firemen mug, organic Alaska hot chocolate, and your choice of any signed book of mine (or eBook, if you prefer.) The "creative" prize will be a Bachelor Fireman gift pack.
You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer either here or on the Facebook party page. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook. Have fun!

The winners from Day 2 are:
Anne W. for her correct answer.
Heather L. for her creative answer.
And the correct answer, according to USHistory.org, was Benjamin Franklin, in Philadelphia on December 7, 1736.
On to today's question! I know you'll have fun with this one.
What is a wetdown ceremony?
As
always, I'll award a prize for one randomly selected correct answer and
one randomly selected creative answer. Research is allowed,
you have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer, either here or on my Facebook page, where you're invited to join all the firemen fun.
So, today's top prize is a bunch of
SMOKIN' HOT FIREMEN! This is a red-hot anthology of sexy stories about
our favorite hotties, and one of the authors, the lovely Cynthia D'Alba Fan Page,
is offering up some swag to go with it. Thanks, Cynthia! The "creative"
prize winner will receive a Bachelor Firemen Gift pack. HAVE FUN!

12 Days of Firemen - Day 2
With over a hundred answers to Day 1's Trivia Question, this party is off to a rocking start! Click here to join the fun on my Facebook page. Here are the winners of Day 1:
Dawn B - correct answer
Karen H - creative answer
And now, here's the Trivia Question for Day 2:
When was the first fire department in America formed and who created it? Bonus points if you know the city.
As always, research is allowed. And as always, I'll award a prize for one correct answer and one creative answer (randomly selected.)
I'm so excited about the prize for this one! The Charleston Fire Department puts out a yearly calendar to benefit the Charleston Animal Society, so not only do we get our sexy firemen, but some adorable pets too. One winner with a correct answer will receive a 2014 calendar.
The creative answer will receive a Bachelor Fireman gift pack. You have until 10am EST tomorrow to leave your answer(s), either here or on my Facebook page. Have fun!!
